Eye of the North dungeons: Arachni’s Haunt
The first Eye of the North dungeon we’ll be looking at is Arachni’s Haunt. Personally, I’m more than a bit scared of spiders, so wandering through a dungeon packed with the eight legged horrors was not a great prospect. Gah.

Arachni’s Haunt is a 2 level dungeon, that can be found in south west corner of Magus Stones. Leave from Rata Sum and head south west - the entrance is right in the far corner.
To fully access Arachni’s Haunt as an actual re-playable dungeon, you first need to complete the quest Scrambled Reinforcements. If you don’t, you’ll find you can only access the first level of the dungeon - missing out on a showdown with Arachni and all those goodies.
Scrambled Reinforcements can be obtained from Commander Hixx in Magus Stones - you’ll find him in the south west corner, near the entrance to the dungeon.
The entire quest is a play on the film Aliens. Commander Hixx is clearly modelled on Corporal Hicks from the movie, and when you accept the quest, you say “I’ll burn everything. It’s the only way to be certain.” - a clear play on the line “Nuke them from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.” from the film.
The Scrambled Reinforcements quest is pretty straightforward - get in there, clear out the dungeon, defeat Arachni. Once completed, both levels in the dungeon are fully available to explore.
The monsters you encounter are pretty standard - lots of spiders, obviously, as well as plants and insects, and some jellies, succubi, elementals and Djinn. The mobs are quite tightly packed, so AoE fire spells (the Elementalists favourite) and Minion Masters are valuable additions to your party.
Once Arachni is defeated, a chest spawns, labelled Arachni’s Spoils. It contains 1 item for each player in the party (2 if in hard mode).
item rewards may be:
- gold items:
- Insectoid Scythe
- Insectoid Staff
- unique items:
- Arachni’s Scythe
- Arachni’s Longbow
- Arachni’s Staff
- Rare crafting materials:
- Diamond
- Ruby
- Sapphire
- Onyx Gemstone
- a Mantis Dreamweaver Polymock Piece
You will also gain 1500 Asuran Reputation Points (2250 in Hard Mode).
The Light of Deldrimor is a ‘must-have’ skill for all dungeons, as on activation it can reveal hidden chests, rooms, and Dwarven ghost allies.
In Arachni’s Haunt, the Light of Deldrimor will reveal the following:
Level 1
- There is a Dwarven ghost in the room after the second Beacon of Droknar. It is located along the southern wall, right in the center.
- There is a secret switch in the rear of the large room where Lok The Mischievous is located. It is located right behind the second to last large column on the left side. The passage that opens up is located in the center of the southern wall in the same room. This secret passage is huge and there are three Hidden Treasures and one Dwarven ghost.
- There is a second Dwarven ghost located in the first room of the secret passage.
- There is a third Dwarven ghost located in the large cavern with the first Spider Matriarch. Right after coming out of the passage with the poison traps, turn right and go up the slope. Turn left again and go over the bridge. The Dwarven ghost is located right on the other side of the bridge.
Level 2
- There is a secret switch near the first Asura Flame Staff. Upon entering level 2, head East. You’ll go through a doorway and your path will intersect with another pathway. You’ll have several corpse of Asura on your left and two torches on your right. The secret switch is located along the center of the wall in front of you. The secret passage that opens up is right behind the Area Map.
- There are two hidden treasure inside the secret passage.
- There is a Dwarven ghost located East of the second Beacon of Droknar in the room with several caskets flooded with water. The spawn location is right next to the Northern most casket, the one that is uncovered.
- There is a hidden treasure in the passage that runs south from the second Beacon of Droknar. It lies between the 3rd column on the left and the 2nd column on the right.
- If you head west from the first Beacon of Droknar, you’ll come to a round room full of beetles and mushrooms. There is a hidden treasure on the southern end of the little pond.
Like all Eye of the North dungeons, Arachni’s Haunt is repeatable, providing a good source of loot and Asuran Reputation Points, as well as counting towards your Dungeon Master’s Guide.
