Eye of the North dungeons: the Bloodstone Caves
The Bloodstone Caves are a three level repeatable dungeon, found in the Sparkfly Swamp. This Eye of the North dungeon can be accessed to talking to Saerin of the Shining Blade in the outpost Gadd’s Encampment. The Bloodstone Caves are first encountered during the Asura Primary Quests, where you are helping Livia and Gadd.
The Bloodstone Caves are pretty easy to find. Just leave Gadd’s Encampment, and head straight east. If you stick close to the south wall it’s possible to quickly run it and avoid any fights.
There are actually three linked quests Saerin will give out - each one must be completed in turn to access the next level of the dungeon.
- The Blade’s Essence: Level 1: Hunt down and kill the Paranoia Ettin - he will then drop the key needed to access Level 2 of the dungeon. He will also drop the quest item Shimmering Essence, required to get your quest reward from Saerin.
- The Arrow’s Point: Level 2: When you defeat the Crystal Ettin, he drops the key to access Level 3 of the dungoen. He will also drop the quest item Arcane Crystal Shard, required to get your quest reward from Saerin.
- Crystal Method: Level 3: Killing the Eldritch Ettin drops the quest item Spectral Crystal, required to get your quest reward from Saerin. Killing him also completes the dungeon and spawns the Eldritch Chest.
There are a lot of hidden Dwarven Ghost allies and Hidden Treasure, so Light of Deldrimor is highly recommended if you want to pick up these extras.
- Level 1:
- Warrior 24 Dwarven Ghost ally, close to the steps to level 2
- Level 2:
- 3 Hidden treasures next to Poison cloud traps
- Warrior 24 Dwarven Ghost ally, by the Middle shrine
- Warrior 24 Dwarven Ghost ally, near the end Shrine
- Level 3:
- Secret Switch on the ground under poison trap next to 2nd Beacon of Droknar. This will open the door at the beginning of level 3. This secret area contains:
- Hidden treasure - take the right passage at the fork, just before you reach the bridge
- Warrior 24 Dwarven Ghost ally - take left passage atthe fork, on top of the hill
- Hidden treasure - take the left passage at the fork, to the right of the hill - Hidden Treasure to the left of the Bloodstone
- Hidden Treasure to the right of the Bloodstone
- Hidden Treasure by the bridge leading out of the main chamber
- Secret Switch on the ground under poison trap next to 2nd Beacon of Droknar. This will open the door at the beginning of level 3. This secret area contains:
The monsters you encounter will be the same as in the Primary Quest: Incubus on Level 1 and 2, Undead on Level 2, and Ettins and Enchanted Weapons on all levels.
The Eldritch Chest that spawns will give each party member 1 of the following items:
- Eldritch Sword (unique green item)
- Eldritch Maul (unique green item)
- Eldritch Staff (unique green item)
- Ancient Moss Staff (gold item unique to this chest)
- Topaz Scepter (gold item unique to this chest)
- Diamond (rare crafting material)
- Onyx (rare crafting material)
- Mantis Dreamweaver Polymock Piece
You’ll also get 1500 Dwarven Reputation Points (this jumps to 2250 in Hard Mode).
Concentrate on the Forge Masters, First Inscribed, Tomb Ettins, as well as the Quest goal bosses. Killing these will cause their summoned ‘Enchanted Mob’ to vanish, making things much easier. The henchman Lo Sha is also useful to bring along (if you’re using henchies) as he has the skill Ineptitude, which is very effective against the type of mobs you’ll encounter. As very few of the creatures leave corpses, a Minion Master is less effective than usual, so bear that in mind when assembling your party.
The Bloodstone Caves are one of the shorter dungeons in Eye of the North - however, it makes up for it with very dense spawn points, and enemies who make heavy use of daze and interruptions.
