The last of the dungeons in Eye of the North that we will be looking at is Vloxen Excavations. The first level is travelled through as part of the main storyline quest, The Knowledgeable Asura. Once Umbral Grotto has been discovered, though, you can journey through Vloxen Excavations as a repeatable quest.

Talk to Molenin in Umbral Grotto to get the quest Dredging the Depths. This will allow access to all three levels of the dungeon. A useful tip is to travel to Umbral Grotto, get the quest, then travel to Vlox’s Falls. If you enter Vloxen Excavations from here you can bypass a significant part of the first level.

The first level is mainly full of plants, oozes and Stone Summit. The second level gets a bit tougher - you will encounter groups of Undead. Once killed they will revive after a short time, so make sure you are quick through this level - it can be very easy to get swamped by hordes of resurrected Undead.

The third level has a few undead and the dungeon boss, Zoldark the Unholy, as well as his posse of 6 Minions of Zoldark. Zoldark will attack, but the main threat comes from his repeated buffs to boost his minions.

You’ll find Zoldark doesn’t heal, but also doesn’t take much damage from direct attacks or degenerative skills. Instead, focus your attacks on his minions. Once they are killed, Zoldark will resurrect them, losing 5% of his health each time.

Keep on the minions until Zoldark’s health is almost depleted. He will then stop the resurrection nonsense - give his minions a final kicking, and then turn on Zoldark himself.

The Light of Deldrimor will reveal quite a few bonuses (this is a three level dungeon, after all):

    Level 1

    • Hidden Treasuer near the Stone Summit Emblem Collector
    • another Hidden Treasuer near the Shrine in the south
    • the third Hidden Treasure is near the boss with the key
    • Dwarven Ghost near the Area Map
    • another Dwarven Ghost near the Shrine on east side
    • Dwarven Ghost near the Shrine by exit to Vlox’s Falls
  • Level 2
    • Hidden Treasure at the bottom of the stairs when you first walk in.
    • another Hidden Treasure near the area map.
    • Hidden Treasure on path between southern gear box and Area Map - a Dwarven Ghost is nearby too
    • the powder keg room has a Hidden Treasure
    • Hidden Treasure and Dwarven Ghost just south of Dungeon gate
    • another Dwarven Ghost in the far south-west up the metal pathway
  • Level 3
    • Hidden Treasure near the starting point.
    • two Hidden Treasures in compass distance from starting zone.
    • another Hidden Treasure in the center-east of the corridor with the boss key.
    • Near the final chest, in the nearest alcoves, are 2 Hidden Treasures

Once Zoldark the Unholy has been defeated, Zoldark’s Chest spawns, giving one of the following items to each player (2 items in Hard Mode):

  • Necromancer Zoldark’s Rod (unique green item)
  • Necromancer Zoldark’s Focus (unique green item)
  • Necromancer Zoldark’s Staff (unique green item)
  • A random gold item (seems to vary quite a lot)
  • Diamond (rare crafting material)
  • Onyx Gemstone (rare crafting material)
  • A Mantis Dreamweaver Polymock Piece

The first time you complete the Vloxen Excavations dungeon you will receive 1500 Dwarven reputation points (2250 in Hard Mode). Each subsequent time you will gain 200 Dwarven Reputation Points (300 in Hard Mode).

Bear in mind that you will gain no experience or reputation points for killing the resurrected undead.

As with other Eye of the North dungeons, Vloxen Excavations has several references to a film - in this case, Raiders of the Lost Ark. Look out for the rolling boulder released by traps on the first level. By the area map on the second level are several groups of Chromatic Drakes - your party leader will say “Drakes. Why did it have to be drakes?”. Also keep an eye out for Indy’s rival, Rene Belloq, who appears as Taskmaster Bellok.
