Frostmaw’s Burrows: an Eye of the North Master dungeon
Eye of the North brought in the idea of Master quests – not quite Elite missions, but quests that were significantly more difficult than normal. Frostmaw’s Burrows, and the associated quest Cold Vengeance, are a Master level dungeon. With 5 levels and some very tough enemies, Frostmaw’s Burrows is one dungeon that will test even the most hardened adventurers.
The Latham the Norn (found in Jaga Moraine) gives the quest Cold Vengeance. Latham and his brothers were ambushed by Frostmaw the Kinslayer, with Latham the only survivor. Accepting the quest gives you access to all five levels of Frostmaw’s Burrows, and in return you must hunt down and kill Frostmaw the Kinslayer.
Frostmaw’s Burrows can be found in the far north of Jaga Moraine
There are lots of enemies to be found: Giants, Mandragors, Imps, Succubi, Elementals, Djinn, Drakes and Wurms. Lots and lots and lots of Wurms. Minion Masters can be devastatingly effective here, but must be tightly controlled to stop Minions aggroing large mobs of Wurms. Rangers and Mesmers with interrupt skills are invaluable.
Thanks to the Cold Vengeance quest, you will be accompanied by Latham and three other Norn. They are not part of your party, but do appear as allies. If the Norn die, they will resurrect once all enemies in aggro range have been defeated. It’s a good idea to let them soak up the damage and protect your backline of casters.
Once Frostmaw the Kinslayer has been defeated, the Chest of Burrows spawns 2 items for each player:
- Warrior Axe of the Kinslayer (unique green item)
- Warrior Sword of the Kinslayer (unique green item)
- Warrior Maul of the Kinslayer (unique green item)
- Warrior Shield of the Kinslayer (unique green item)
- Assassin Claws of the Kinslayer (unique green item)
- Dervish Scythe of the Kinslayer (unique green item)
- Ranger Bow of the Kinslayer (unique green item)
- Paragon Spear of the Kinslayer (unique green item)
- Monk Scepter of the Kinslayer (unique green item)
- Monk Heart of the Kinslayer (unique green item)
- Necromancer Staff of the Kinslayer (unique green item)
- Bonecage Scythe (gold item)
- Demoncrest Spear (gold item)
- Demon Fangs (gold item)
- Icicle Staff (gold item)
- Silverwing Recurve Bow (gold item)
- Tentacle Scythe (gold item)
- Diamond (rare crafting material)
- Ruby (rare crafting material)
- Sapphire (rare crafting material)
- Onyx Gemstone (rare crafting material)
- A Wind Rider Polymock Piece
- A Lockpick
The first time you complete the dungeon you receive 3000 Norn Reputation Points. After that you’ll get 300 Norn Reputation Points when completing the dungeon. The Cold Vengeance quest will also give you 10,000 XP and 2,000 gold.
Frostmaw’s Burrows is one of the toughest dungeons in Eye of the North. Not only are the enemies tough, but the fact that the wurms tunnel underground and suddenly appear (causing knockdown and significant damage) means it is easy to be overwhelmed and have your party wiped.
